Activity 4 and 5

I used SMART Recorder to create a screen cast to help my students open up the internet and find links to websites that are listed on our schools website! I also created a YouTube account so that parents can then find this screen cast and know how to access websites for their children.

SMART Recorder was VERY easy to use. It took about 10 mins from start to finish! I see myself using this in many ways. I teach computer skills, so screen casting will be very helpful! I know I will use this specific screen cast, and because it was so easy I already have ideas of other step by steps that I would like to record!!
Uploading a YouTube video was also very easy! I like the idea of parents and students being able to find videos and screen casts that I use/like. I see myself using this tool of our Gmail! I wonder what else our Gmail offers that I didn't know about???:)

  1. Great idea using screen cast to help students and parents use the Mounds View website and your kindergarten links! The parents will love it and it will be a useful tool. Nice work!

  3. This would be a great video to put on the web page showing parents and students how to access Debbie's page. I know a lot of parent come to the grade and teacher pages, but most don't know how to access this wealth of information.!

  4. I agree with your comment about what else is in our Google accounts that we haven't accessed yet! It's amazing what I'm discovering through this class. I had the same idea for my blog. Life will be much simpler this year - I hope!

  5. Virginia,
This looks great! Your directions are very clear and they lead step by step. I like the length of your video too, short and to the point! Very helpful! Good work with this tool!

  6. Virginia, this is super! I think, just like with our students, parents can benefit from the additional "visual" of screencasting. I am thinking about parents who miss PIN too... they could still "see" how to access things. I think they are more inclined to watch something like this, than read through a packet send home. I really like the language you used... "one fast click" etc. with your video.

  8. Great work Virginia, now I feel like I'm piggy-backing on your ideas! I had similar thoughts, but planned to take it a step further and show parents how they can work on some phonics and blending activities with their children at home. I agree with Gina & Beth about the language, very clear and easy to use for K students. I had originally planned to be speaking to parents about how they can work with their children, but you've convinced me we should make these available for K students to use independently also. Always one step ahead of me! ;-)
