Activity 2-Pimp My Presentation

I used Popplet to create a presentation for my plants science unit. I looked at the key parts of this unit and quickly created different popplets to display the information!

Popplet was relatively quick and easy to use. I was able to upload photos and YouTube videos very quickly. I ran into a few things that I struggled with/ did not like...One was that with this unit I typically use BrainPOP videos and I could not embed or link them into my Popplet presentation. I also did not like that the picture options were limited to flicker, Facebook  and images saved on my computer. In addition I think I will check out Prezi to see if I can incorporate some of the things I feel Popplet does not allow me to do . Overall I really liked Popplet for how quick it was to create and use. I see myself using Popplet for many subjects/units!!!

  1. I love it! I saw this plant lesson in K at TL when I was doing an MVTPPS observation last spring. I had a similar experience trying to embed a non-YouTube video in Prezi - I gave up and stuck to words. I like science almost as much as math!

  2. Hi Virginia.
I am currently on a flight home from a family vacation, and I can't get your popplet to load. But I wanted to comment on your written post and I will go back and look at your popplet later. I agree, that being limited in your options for graphics is not great. Copying something to your desktop makes for one extra step. A question: when you save something like this to use, will you save a link to it? or will you save it as a file? I'm beginning to think about how to best organize and access some of these new options for presentation in the classroom.

  3. I just checked it and it loaded, so I hope it works for you when you get back!!! Yeah- I thought about copying images to my desktop, but I wasn't working at my computer, so I didn't want to do that. I don't know how I will save it? Right now I typically just open up the website with the tool and share things that way, but I too need to be more organized with how I use store these web 2.0 tools that I create???

  4. Yes I wonder if we can save individual popplets to our personal space on the district computers, I will certainly need to start creating headings and subfolders to keep organized the many different things I'll be doing this year! I'm not sure popplet has many more features to be worth paying for though. I'll have to try both to see what I like best.

  5. Good poplet! It is a good format to get students exploring on the computer and investigating. The different areas they can go to have a lot of neat information and variety, like the videos and songs that will keep them entertained!
